It’s been 10 long years since we last sawAlexander Skarsgård’s Eric Northman in the seminal HBO hitTrue Blood, but if you happened to catch last night’s episode ofWhat We Do in the Shadows, you’d have recognized a familiar face.Skarsgård made an appearance in the latest outing of the FX series, which has only two episodes to go now before it wraps up its sixth and final season.
Titled “Come Out and Play,” the Season 6 episode is a riff on the Walter Hill cult-classic filmThe Warriors, andfeatures Skarsgård as a reluctant onlooker in a crowd of NYC vampiresbeing addressed by Doug Jones' character, The Baron. When he asks if anyone has a question, a vampire raises his hand, only to get his skull crushed by Cravensworth’s Monster. When The Baron notes that Skarsgård also had his hand raised, he timidly replies,“I thought I had a question, but you already answered it.“Though the Swedish actor isn’t specifically revealedto be Eric Northman, the resemblance is uncanny considering he’s dressed in hisTrue Bloodcharacter’s trademark black leather jacket, and sports the same hairstyle he did in the HBO series.

The 20 Greatest Vampire TV Shows of All Time
As the medium advanced, and budgets and writing grew more pronounced, television became an arena for tales of vampires navigating their odd lives.
When asked byDeadlineto comment on hisWhat We Do in the Shadowsappearance,Skarsgård joked that he had no recollection of shooting the episode, going on to say that he’s now a big fan of Dr. Cravensworth.

Beginning in 2019,What We Do in the Shadowsis based on the 2014 hit film of the same name, which became one the most highly praised horror-comedies in recent memory thanks to its mocumentary format, and stellar performances from its virtually unknown-at-the-time New Zealand cast, including Taika Waititi. Hoping to capture some of the film’s magic on the small screen, Waititi and co-creator Jermaine Clement brought the series to FX, where it became an instant hit with fans and critics.
It’s since gone on to be nominated for 29 Primetime Emmy Awards, though – unfortunately – it has yet to take home a trophy. Still, over the course of the last six years,What We Do in the Shadows has managed to maintain its popularity and critical acclaim, and currently holds a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a phenomenal achievement for a series that no one was sure would last as long as it has.

With the final two episodes set to air on Dec. 9 and Dec. 16, it’ll be a bittersweet goodbyefor Laszlo, Nando, Nadja, and Guillermo, but we’re thankful we were blessed with the series in the first place. Plus, with Skarsgård’s recent appearance, there’s no telling who else might show up to help bid farewell, so be sure to tune into FX to find out, and catchWhat We Do in the Shadowsthe next day on Hulu.
