“Once upon a time, a bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the wilderness, and they went completely nuts.” It’s a tale as old as time, and also how the trailer for the third season ofYellowjacketsbegins, giving us our first real look at the show’s sure-to-be-horrifying next installment.
And, well? Things decidedlydon’tlook good for everyone’s favorite soccer team champions turned cultish cannibalistic survivalists. On the upside, though, the terrifying trailer also gave our first look at Oscar winner andseason three guest star,Hilary Swank, arriving to theYellowjacketsworld just in time for things to get really real — and with a whispered “sh*t” before the terrified actress takes off running away from something rattling and unseen.
Where Does Season 3 Find The ‘Yellowjackets’ Team At?
For those of you reading this for kicks but know nothing about the show (which, if so, hi: I have so many questions for you!),Yellowjacketstakes place across two different timelines, and chronicles the lives of a team of New Jersey high school soccer stars, who crash-land in the Canadian wilderness in 1996 and are forced to survive by any means necessary. Which is, for the record, exactly what they do: forming a cult and becoming full-on cannibals in order to survive the hellish landscape and winter weather. The series also follows the women who survived the crash in modern day, as adults being haunted — or hunted — by something or someone, which threatens to reveal to the world the dark things they had to do to stay alive.
Season three finds the women fighting against a mysterious enemy. “Someone wants to kill us,” says Melanie Lynskey’s adult Shauna in the trailer, indicating how far-from-over things are for the women in their modern iterations. “The only people who know about this are either us or dead,” says Ambrose’s adult Van in seeming response.

The clip then goes on to show a multitude of quick snippets and intriguing clips that hint at more mystery, danger, and the seemingly ever-present feeling that something supernatural may be at play. The teaser even includes young, ghost Jackie (played by Ella Purnell) haunting present-day Shauna, in a hint of just where the women may be at, mentally, at this moment in time.

Yellowjacketsstars the aforementioned Lynskey alongside Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose, and Simone Kessell as the adult iterations of the ‘96 team. It also stars Sophie Nélisse, Samantha Hanratty, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Liv Hewson, and Courtney Eaton as their respective teen counterparts.
This season will see a few more new faces join the fold in the aforementioned Swank and comedian Joel McHale in anas-yet-unnamed role. Elijah Wood will also recur after joining the show in season two. So far there’s no word on whether the elusive, very real, but very much still-unseen bonus episode will air yet, either — although series co-creator Ashley Lyle did recentlyconfirm its existence.
Yellowjackets’ third season premieres — hilariously and/or romantically enough, depending on your vibe — on August 09, 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime. It will air two days later on Showtime (on July 20, 2025). Because nothing says “I love you” like watching a bunch of teen girls feast on their friends in the woods to survive.
