If you were just thinking that you needed more of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson back on the small screen, then you’re in luck, as the WWE Hall of Famer’s upcoming seriesYoung Rockhas been confirmed for a midseason debut on NBC this fall. According to TV Line, the new show will be joining the network’s other midseason showsEllen’s Game of Games,Good Girls,Kenan,Mr. Mayor,Small Fortune,That’s My Jam,True Story, andZoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. An exact premiere date is yet to be revealed.
A biographical series,Young Rockwill, as the title would suggest, focus on the early years of Johnson’s life and career as an entertainer. Johnson is also on board to appear in each of the freshman season’s 11 episodes, but his role has not yet been stated. It’s possibleDwayne Johnsonwill serve as a narrator or introduce each episode, but it’s also worth noting he’s previously played his father in a guest appearance onThat ’70s Show, so he just might appear as one of his older relatives onYoung Rockas well. Additional details on the plot are not clear, and it still isn’t known who will portray the younger version of Johnson.
As most fans of theJumanji: The Next Levelstar will know, Johnson’s claim to fame came in the wrestling business long before he was headlining action movies in Hollywood. As part of a famous Samoan wrestling family, Johnson followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather to become a professional wrestler for WWF (later WWE). Known initially as Rocky Maivia, Johnson’s popularity skyrocketed when he started calling himself The Rock and turned the intensity and charisma all the way up. He has since become one of the most prolific actors in history, though he continues to make sporadic appearances inWWEto pay homage to his roots.
