Zack Snyder, the mastermind behind many cinematic successes, is gearing up to serve audiences his latest interstellar narrative,Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire. In a universe replete with interstellar tales, lightsaber battles, and iconic characters, it is a daunting task for a director to set forth with a space epic that both pays homage to the greats and offers a fresh perspective. Think it’s just another retelling of George Lucas' iconic narrative from another galaxy? Think again.
Rebel Moon, with its premiere looming on December 22, has been eagerly awaited, not least because of its intriguing backstory. The project began as an attempt to present a more somber and adult iteration ofStar Wars, yet Lucasfilm turned it down after their Disney merger. Resilient as ever, Snyder found a new home for his project at Netflix, where it will span two parts, titledPart One - A Child of FireandPart Two: The Scargiver. Although the film stands as an entirely original creation, its embryonic ties toStar Warsare unmissable, leading many to draw parallels between the two.

During a set visit,Screen Rantgot a sneak peek into the universe ofRebel Moon. Snyder shared his intention of veering away from a trapStar Warsoften found itself in – the undue emphasis on a single planet, in this case, Tatooine. Sharing his insights, Snyder quipped about the oddity of the entire galaxy seemingly taking fashion cues from a remote desert planet. He mentioned,
“We try. I always laugh that in Star Wars, it just so happens that the native costumes of this weird Tatooine, this weird planet in the middle of nowhere, happen to be the fashion of the entire universe. I thought they were very particular. I guess that’s fine. When you make a sci-fi movie, it’s like, “Okay, well, what is the world? What does the home planet look like? They could all be wearing neon jumpsuits and who knows. There’s a million examples. It could be 1984. It could be something. I like the idea of everything is terrestrially inspired because I feel like it makes it really relatable.”
